Literature Indices and Search Tools
- ISI Web of Science
- An excellent search tool for scientific papers across a broad range of publishers and disciplines.
- NCBI PubMed
- PubMed is a searchable database of biological and medical articles hosted by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). It tends to have more recent information than the Web of Science.
Computational Biology and Scientific Computation Links
- David Basanta's Evolution and Cancer Blog
- David Basanta is a post-doc at TU-Dresden who's working in computational modeling of cancer. His blog is generally insightful and well-written, so I highly recommend it!
- UCI Center for Computational Science of Microstructure
- Website for our group at the UCI Center for Computational Science of Microstructure. I work there with John Lowengrub, Vittorio Cristini, and others.
- Journal of Computational Physics
- Published by Elsevier.
- Journal of Scientific Computing

Cellular Biology Links
- John Kyrk's Cell Biology Animation Site
- Has many excellent animations and tutorials on cellular biology, including DNA replication and cellular anatomy.
- "THE" Medical Biochemistry Page
- A good resource for topics of medical biochemistry, such as the extracellular matrix, oncogenes, and signal transduction.
- NCBI Entrez Gene
- A fantastic database of human genes and their functions, as well as references for further information. Hosted by the National Center for Biotechnology Information.

Histology Links
- JayDoc HistoWeb
- This University of Kansas site has some very good photos of various types of tissue.
- Virtual Histology Atlas
- This site has a lot of great slides of many different types of tissue, accompanied by detailed, descriptive text. Medical terms are linked to a glossary, making this an exceptional reference.
- Histology at SIU SOM
- This site has a lot of great slides of many different types of tissue, as well as links to other great, similar sites.
- LUMEN Histology and Zoomified Histology
- This site, at the Loyola University Medical School, has a comprehensive series of slides from various tissues, as well as some self-quizzes. Be sure to check out the "zoomified histology" site, which has amazing flash-based zoom and pan tools for a plethora of images, along with helpful descriptions.
- Webanatomy.net Histology and Pathology
- This site may be a little dated, but it does have good slides for both histology and pathology.
